I met a group of four other men at a local yarn store, Knitorious, last night for an interview for a local news affiliate. That makes at least five other men I know now who knit. I accidentally (and tragically) left my latest project in Ohio, so I had to bring an afghan I'm working on made of yarn scraps. I think it will be nice when it is finished, but it's not exactly meant to show off my abilities. I was amazingly comfortable working on my project there; the only think that made it a little awkward was knowing that I was being recorded.

New knitting project

A couple of weeks ago I followed a strong impulse and bought a ball of Trekking color 100. It's been torturing me not doing anything with it, so I finally decided that I would attempt my first pair of gloves. This yarn is way too cool to be walking around on all day long, after all.

I decided to use a really basic glove pattern from a book I have checked out from the library, but will most certainly buy someday when I have money. Here's the reference in MLA style, of course:

Because of the London terror threats, Keith's students are all arriving later than expected. One student from France is expected to arrive tonight at 1:30. And I get the joy of helping (driving) to pick this person up. To most people, this wouldn't be so bad. But I'm an old man. I go to bed at 10:15. Which means that I'm up way past my bedtime already. And I have a big day of, well, um, studying tomorrow.

Summer slavery

Some of you might have been wondering what I've been doing with my summer job. It's hella exciting and something akin to changing 99 to 1999 for the year 2000 switchover. Summer blahs

Summer always does this to me. I'm tired but I can't rest. I feel like I have no more personality. I'm not interested in anything, including what I would normally consider fun. I've been looking forward to this all year, but it's like milktoast or C major. The only thing I look forward to is coffee, but my stomach is upset and I feel like I shouldn't ingest any more acid. I can't bring myself to eat a salad--I just want peanut butter and jelly. I have tons of interesting books, but no desire to read them any more. God, I sound like Werther.

I'm addicted to the very cheap and generic tortilla chips Target offers these days. As I was thinking about getting the crumbs out of the almost-empty bag just now, I misread the caption on the bag as "great for doping". (This is the part of the bag crumpled by the twist-tie that normally reads "great for dipping".
